SITUATIONProposal Name: mariculture and algaculture infrastructure Initiated By: name Submission date: date Background: Almost 70% of Earth's surface is covered in water, and with the progress of anthrogenic climate change that is set to increase. Aquatic ecosystems have been important sources of food and raw materials since the Paleolithic, but mostly wild-harvested rather than farmed. That has been changing in recent years, with the commercialisation of mariculture (fish farming in the water) and algaculture (farming algae). The regulatory environment in Victoria is not very favourable to aquatic farming at the moment, but I believe Fat Bandicoot should invest in some basic infrastructure to facilitate research into these fields. Summary of proposed changes: Fat Bandicoot should buy a boat, small enough to be trailered and stored, but large enough to explore a diversity of aquatic ecosystems. It should be powered entirely by renewable sources of energy. Further extensions of this project should be:
